Project Description

Sierra Negra

Sierra Negra is one of the most active volcanoes of Isabela, the only island of Galapagos which is crossed by the equinoctial line. It’s large crater shelters iguanas, birds and bats and motivated Darwin to search here for the origins of the species. The dark colour of the lava and an almost permanent fog in its southern flank are of heart-rending enchantment.
